Barren County High School
Caverna High School
What a heartbreaker for the Lady Colonels tonight. The Caverna girls brought an unblemished record into the match with the defending regional champs. This match lived up to the hype. Barren County came in with their A game and Caverna responded. The match would hinge on the last Baker’s match and Barren edged out the Lady Colonels by 55 pins overall.
In the first head to head game the Colonels rolled to a 22 pin victory on strong performances from Shiana Smith and Katy Phipps. Smith rolled a season high 196 followed by Phipps with a 165. Caverna dropped a 137 for a low score. In the second head to head Caverna gave back the ground they had gained and lost by a total of 64 pins. Smith continued with the hot hand rolling a 176. The rest of the Lady Colonels struggled and they dropped the game.
In Baker’s play Caverna came out strong with a 156 and narrowed the gap to 30 pins. The second Baker’s started with Barren on a roll and Caverna struggling. The Colonel bowlers made a charge at the end to come up short by 24 pins and thus dropping the overall match.
This match bodes well for both programs as they build toward the Regional Tournament in February. The two squads meet again in a week to lace it up and roll it out again.
